Eagle Dam Feasibility Study

Background

The Eagle Dam is located off of Franklin Street adjacent to the Town's Well #3 and along Eagle Brook downstream of the Red Dam which creates Lake Pearl. Due to deteriorating conditions of Eagle Dam, the Town, with funding from the State's MVP Grant Program, has been working with the Charles River Watershed Association and Weston & Sampson to assess the dam and evaluate the Town's options regarding the Dam's future.

Project Information

The Town of Wrentham identified Eagle Dam as a potential vulnerability due to the dam's poor condition and expected increase in rain and streamflow due to climate change. The Town engaged ESS Group to conduct an initial feasibility assessment of barriers to removing Eagle Dam. The study, completed in April 2021, concluded that Eagle Dam is likely a candidate for dam removal although additional study, and extensive community engagement would be needed before taking that step.

Virtual Public Meetings

Several virtual public meetings were held for people to learn about the work done by the Town of Wrentham, Weston & Sampson, and Charles River Watershed Association to explore the future of Eagle Dam. These meetings presented recent findings from fieldwork, analysis of flood modeling, and hydraulic analyses and provided the public with the opportunity to share their input and ask questions.
